The Resale Right Directive


In 2001, the EU adopted the Resale Right Directive (2001/84/EC); a Directive aimed at harmonising EU rules on ensuring authors of graphic and plastic arts are remunerated for their works when these are resold through an auction or gallery, by attributing a small share of the sale price to the creator.

Together with the European Visual Artists (EVA) and the Confederation of International Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), GESAC actively advocates for spreading the resale right across the globe.
