Jean-Noël tronc, CEO of French member Sacem, and Vice-President of the GESAC board, met with France’s President François Hollande and Senegal President Macky Sall among others at the 26th Summit of the Francophonie (or French-speaking communities).
Yesterday, on Portugal’s Independence day, our member SPAutores received the title of Honorary member of the Order of Freedom from the hands of President of the Portuguese Republic Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Strasbourg 13/12/2016 – Today, the report on a “coherent EU policy for cultural and creative industries” drafted jointly by MEPs Christian Ehler (Germany, EPP) and Luigi Morgano (Italy, S&D) was approved in plenary. GESAC welcomes the recognition by the European Parliament that CCI, which comprises architecture, visual arts, music, books, newspapers, music, performing arts, TV, film, radio, etc., are key to the EU economy and that this European creativity requires safeguarding.
To have an overview of what authors’ societies in Europe represent, GESAC aggregated its members’ key figures in 2015. Our 33 members spread over 27 countries had over 1 million members last year, 97% of which were authors, the other 3% of which were publishers. The relevance of authors’ societies remains clear with nearly 50.000 new rights holders becoming members last year.
