Brussels, 14/09/2016 – Today, the Commission released its “copyright package”. Despite requiring further steps, this proposal sends the signal to platform services that they too must play by the rules so that further distortion of the Digital Single Market for creative content can be stopped.
Ahead of the COREPER meeting that brings together the Member States’ Permanent Representatives today to discuss the Copyright Directive, the creative sector joined forces again to urge the Bulgarian Presidency to tackle the transfer of value issue.
In a letter addressed to Members of the European Parliament today, CISAC President Jean-Michel Jarre and Vice-Presidents Angelique Kidjo, Marcelo Piñeyro, Miquel Barceló, and Jia Zhang-ke say that ‘creators globally look to Europe for leadership on authors’ right’.
The International Literary and Artistic Association (ALAI) is working with GESAC to set up a new European Authors’ Right Award. The next generation of IP lawyers is key to the future of authors’ right/ copyright which is why it is so important to encourage them to take an active interest in the topic and to have their voices heard.
