Gen AI & Copyright: GESAC responds to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence

The message from the creators’ community is clear.

Europe must:

    • Clarify that EU copyright law is applicable to all Gen AI services available in the EU and that they must be subject to proper transparency obligations, licensing, and fair remuneration for creators.
    • Clarify that creative works are used across the Gen AI value chain and provide further steps to prevent the growing substitution effect in cultural and creative markets.

Authors and composers rely on collective management as the most effective system to ensure the widest possible access to creative works with legal certainty, provide appropriate remuneration and protect cultural diversity.
