German court confirms ruling on YouTube liability for copyright infringements
On 1 July, the Hamburg Higher Regional Court ruled that YouTube was liable as an ‘interferer’ (Störer) for content made available on its platform by third parties. The fundamental responsibility of YouTube via the principle of ‘interferer liability’ (Störerhaftung) was therefore confirmed by the appeals court.

In April 2019, the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market was formally adopted, a change that will positively transform authors’ rights throughout the EU. Each member state now has until 7 June 2021 to transpose the Directive into their respective national law.
