New study on Italian CCI presented by Jean-Michel Jarre today

President of CISAC (the Confédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Auteurs et de Compositeurs) Jean-Michel Jarre presented the new EY study on the Italian Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) today in Rome.

Among other figures, the study titled “Italia Creativa” shows that Italiy’s creative industries are the country’s third biggest employer with over a million jobs, ahead of food, cars, property, and luxury goods.

Despite impressive figures, Jean-Michel Jarre emphasised the need to act quickly on the major issue of transfer of value, which is creating market distortions and is holding back growth in the creative sectors.

Mr. Jarre said “The good news is that the problem of the ‘transfer of value’ has been recognised by policy makers. The EU is addressing the ‘transfer of value’ through the new Copyright Directive proposed last year. It would hopefully end the misapplication of copyright laws that currently devalues creative works online.” He also called on the creative sector to support “the proposal as it works its way through the European Parliament this year. And after that, (…) look beyond Europe to address the problem across the rest of the world.”
